Many, many years ago, I fell in love with Trinny and Susannah–the dynamic duo behind the original What Not to Wear TV show based in the UK. With their basic “rules” for fashion, they taught women how to dress for their shape. I always have them in the back of my head while shopping. Thanks to my favorite twosome, I have found the shapes that work for me, and this is one of them–a straight cut that nips in at the smallest part of my waist. By showing off your smallest part, it is instantly slimming and one of the most handy rules to remember. It’s also why the drop waist trend didn’t work for me–why would I want to show off the widest part of my body!?
Another fashion friend: the nude heel. Visually, it makes your legs look longer (and who doesn’t want that!?) since you can’t tell where your legs end and shoes begin. These heels in particular are a city girl’s BFF. The chunky heel makes it much easier to survive the day trotting around town.
While many don’t believe in rules for fashion, there are some basics worth following. What’s your favorite fashion rule?
