With my birthday around the corner, I have become a bit obsessed with anti-aging potions, and getting serious about a sunscreen routine seemed like an obvious step to preventing those dreaded fine lines and wrinkles. The SPF in my makeup just isn’t going to cut it anymore.
I have two major complaints about sunscreen (1) I hate the way it feels on my face after a while and (2) I feel like it breaks up my makeup throughout the day. I went on a mission to find a product that I would love and could make part of my morning routine. I came up with two: Supergoop’s City Sun Serum and Coppertone’s Clearly Sheer Faces–both are SPF 30 which is the minimum you should be wearing every day.
What I love about both of these is that they are mattifying formulas. I don’t feel greasy or shiny throughout the day which solves issue #1. As an added bonus, they are fast absorbing which is great for rushed mornings. Since they are broad spectrum (a must!), they will fight both UVA–the aging rays–and UVB–the burning rays.
Both products contain Avobenzone and Octocrylene which won’t breakdown when outside in the sun. These formulas work great under makeup, and I have had no issues with makeup-breakup throughout the day. Because these are chemical–as opposed to physical–sunscreens, I always apply my sunscreen first then serum, primer and my tinted moisturizer.
Which do I like better? I think they are both great and have worked well for me. Because the Coppertone is significantly less expensive, I will probably end up using it as my weekday go-to. If you have sensitive skin, give the Supergoop a try; it’s both paraben and fragrance free. Either way, you’ll feel better knowing that you’re protected year-round, rain or shine!
